Glass Floors Included in $100M renovation for the Space Needle

The Space Needle has long been an iconic fixture for the city’s skyline, and this fall it will be getting some very modern updates. Titled the “Century Project,” this $100M renovation is scheduled to begin in September and be completed within the year! Some of the additions to be excited about are new features like floor to ceiling glass and a rotating glass floor on the restaurant level, plus replacement of the metal cage surrounding the observation deck with angled glass for unobstructed views.

Since the Space Needle’s inauguration in 1962 for the World’s Fair, it has hosted nearly 60 million visitors. Space Needle CEO Ron Sevart says positively “this reinvestment ensures the long-term viability…I believe we’ll look back at this as a pivotal moment in the history of the Space Needle.” The sustainable cherry on top? The project is aiming for LEED Silver energy efficiency and sustainability certification and $70 million of the budget will go to local firms and workers.
